Along with my previous post, I was wondering what the best procedure is for performing a valve job. I've been using this procedure:

For top dead center, I've been going off the line between the UC on the flywheel. Also, I absent mindedly put my old spring shims in with the new springs I installed on the head. Could this effect my valve timing?
