Wow, I didn't even know you could buy a rebuild kit. From a practical standpoint, if everything is a wash economically, buy a rebuilt pump, and take your wife or girlfriend to the movies using the time you saved rebuilding it yourself.
If you dig working on stuff like that, and would feel good about saying 'I rebuilt my own fuel pump', do it yourself!
My usual experience would go something like this;
Buy rebuild kit.
Pull pump apart.
Discover pump body is worn out and not rebuildable.
Buy rebuilt pump.
Attempt to return repair kit...NO RETURNS!
Drink self into a stupor.
