Sorry to bring up an old thread, but those of you who have swapped out the stock seat for a newer model bench seat, did you mount the seat on top of the gas tank box, or have you moved the tank elsewhere and mounted the seat to the floor?
I've got a 1940 also. My stock seat is in perfect condition, but I want to swap it out for something else. Leg room is not an issue really, but I always feel like I'm sitting up way to high. I need to come down at least 3 inches. I'm 6'2" and it's bad on my back also, very uncomfortable.
My seat actually slides onto guides mounted on top of the tank box, which I assume is the factory setup.
One of the things I plan to do this summer is get the tank out of the cab. I should then have a lot more seat options. This way I can mount the seat directly to the floor.
I have plenty of pic a parts near me, so finding something shouldn't be too difficult. I'd rather a bench over buckets for some reason, but it's gonna have to be very small/thin because the cab is so small. I'll look into the Chrysler van and Ranger seats. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
