A 1955 dated engine would not have been used in 1954.
1954/55 truck engines were originally painted gray and car engines were painted blue (rebuilt/repainted engines could be painted any color).
Here are locations of various codes on engines - some locations might be different in different years and on cars vs trucks.
Post the block and head casting codes, the block and head date casting codes, and the engine serial number/ID. People will help to ID the engine.
