As a follow-up, I've pulled the rear drums off my 46 pu, and there were no "conical springs" installed pictured in the shop manual. There are no holes in the backing plate for the J hooks to fit through either. It doesn't seem to me to be any use to only hook the conical spring on the brake shoe. Do I have the wrong backing plates? Or am I not understaning the purpose of the conical spring? Thanks.
PS. I haven't pulled front yet to see if there are the conical springs there 'cause I only have one set of jack stands (next purchase).
