I'm coming to you for more advice - -
Two questions -
1) Is the Classic Parts
#82-232 glass bowl fuel pump that I have the correct one for my '54 3100 235 Rochester B?
2) What glass bowl fuel pump do I need for my truck?
I currently have a metal top fuel pump on my '54. Works well, but I want to change to a glass bowl pump. I'm confused by the photos, descriptions, and year ranges shown by suppliers.
I bought the glass bowl pump in 1999 (I tend to procrastinate) from Chevy Duty - now Classic Parts. It was listed for
'47-'54 trucks when I bought it. Now it is listed for
'47-'51 ... not '54.
I had the pump installed on my truck last month, but it didn't work according to the shop, so they reinstalled my original pump. I opened the top and brushed some light oil on the diaphram where it meets the case and screwed the screws down tight. I ran a line to the pump and manually pumped it. The bowl filled and it pumped gas out of the outlet. I don't want to install it again if it is not the right pump. And I don't want to buy a new one if this one is correct and may work.
Seems like each parts house lists a different range of years for glass bowl pumps. Some have the inlet and outlet running parallel to the engine block, some have them at an angle, with the outlet angled toward the block.

The
1954 Shop Manual kinda shows the lines at an angle to the block (not sure). But the '47-'54 Assembly Manual shows the lines parallel to the block. Sect 6, Sheet 6.
Classic Parts no longer offers a glass bowl pump for '54 trucks. The metal top pump for
'52-'57 has the in and out at an angle to the block. The
'53-'57 glass bowl pump from Chevs of the 40's also has them at an angle.
The Classic Parts
'47-'51 in and out are parallel to the block. (This is the pump that I have.) The in and out on the American Classic and Jim Carter's
'37-'62 glass bowl pumps are also parallel to the block.
By the way, how can I keep the tank from draining out when I remove the line? I read in an old post that there is a cut-off valve for the gas line from the tank - don't see it under the truck.
