Chevy was impressed enough with the power gain of the 261 cam to also use it in the Corvette 6-cylinder engine. It gives a noticeable gain in top-end horsepower without totally ruining torque in the lower-RPM ranges. There are plenty of ridiculously radical cams available if all you want to do is run wide open all the time, without any concern for overall driveability. That's kind of a stupid tradeoff if you ever plan to run on the street.
