From what I can see of your photo, the lifter cover or side cover extends to the spark plugs. You can see at least one of the screws holding it on. This style was typical of a 216 up until around 53. The 235 looked pretty well identical until 1950. The motor would be a low pressure motor that is being referred to as a "babbitt" motor.
