I read Deve's restoration article also and got the impression that he mounted the new motor inside the old motor case for a more original look. Seems like a lot of work to me and I also wondered about double layered case? I guess technically, you could just use enough of the old motor case to stick through the firewall to appear correct. Just a thought.
