Hy bigdog58, have you put a voltmeter on the battery, how do you know it's not charging? The way you describe how you wired it you have eliminated the ammeter from the charging part of the circuit. When I replace a generator with an alternator I remove the armature and battery wires from the old generator regulator, and wire them together and insulate them. Then you can use the old armature wire to attach to the alternator output terminal, that way your ammeter still reflects the charging/discharging of the battery. I can't remember for sure which terminal is number one and which one is number two on the plug, but I think number one can be looped back to the output terminal, and number two can be connected to the accessory side of the igniton switch, do not connect it to the ignition side of the switch, or once the engine starts you will not be able to shut it off. I may have those terminal numbers backwards, but if I do someone will be along to correct me, hope that helps.
