You are going to have to duplicate the plate with the threaded holes. The movement of this plate in the pillar is what gives your adjustment so you can align the door. Otherwise you will end up with either rubbing or a gap.
In the future when they are that tight, redrill and tape them. It's also a good idea to run a tap into all your threaded holes before you assemble them to clean out any rust or corrison.
