Tim's right, I just checked my shop manual. But when I pulled mine all apart this past summer they were dry as a bone, no evidence of sealant.
3m makes a real nice sealer, never fully dries, but stays tacky enough to keep things water tight, thi is what I will put in place like the manual shows when the time comes to my side windows.
