if your tearing it down for a build then just put a pry bar between the back of the cam gear and the front of the block and and apply some leverage on it to see what gives. the gear, thrust plate, cam and bearings are junk anyway just dont mess up the block. maybe the bearings are worn as such to have a lip on the them thus preventing it to slide out ???
