One of the exceptions to the "everything behind the firewall" idea are the running boards.. They are different than a small truck, well obviously different than a pickup, and not so obviously different than the short boards from a small (1/2 through 1 ton) non-pickup truck.

I don't know as much about 54 big bolts... I do know for a 48-53 the fenders and hoods are different between small and big trucks. For 54 I'm pretty sure hoods are different, and I suspect grill too but not sure.
