This is just a WAG. Tape off the door as if you were going to paint the old logo on. Instead of using paint, use paint deglosser and allow it to dry. Then remove the tape. Perhaps this will give you the look you are looking for.

Very close to what I was thinking but I like your idea better. I was thinking of applying a satin or flat clear (if there is such a thing).
Only other concept I could come up with was a color only slightly off of the base coat with clear for protection.
A good artist may be able to "shadow" it in??
Can you clarify exactly what you mean here? A shadow of the
outline of the letters or some other color
over the current paint?
