I just rebuilt and installed a 55-235 in my 52-3100 ,yes it can, it has hyd. liffters and has alittle more HP.On the water pump I used a adaptor to use a stock 216 water pump or you can use a short shaft pump I think the adaptor is the way to go ,one if you need a pump when you're on a trip somewhere you can order a 216 pump from any FLAPS and it gets the fan up more in the center of the rad.less trouble with the fan clearing the bottom rad. hose.
It's a very good engine for a AD.
