"Is a 53 car 235 identical to a 54 Truck 235?"
No - there a few differences.
These differences are complicated due to the two different 235 engines used in 1953 cars (which are different from the 1953 truck 235 engines), and due to the fact that some 1953 235s were high-pressure and some were low-pressure (while both types of 1954 235 truck engines were high-pressure).
1954 235 engines have other differences; and, 1957-newer heads might have a few other differences.
Pre '68 Dave can most likely provide information on specific differences. In general, you should look for parts in the year of the part they connect to. Here are some examples:
- valve cover gasket - match the 57-62 head-year
- pan gasket - match the 53 car block-year
- lifters - match the car block year (and, be sure if you have hydraulic or mechanical - in earlier posts, it looked like you have a Powerglide block - it would have hydraulic lifters).
- fuel-pump - match the block-year
Post questions about specific parts here, but be sure to post casting codes and date codes for pertinent parts. (you have posted some of these in earlier posts but people would have to search for them)
Your combination of parts makes for a complex set of possible answers regarding what year part you might need (and, a car or truck part also make a difference).
