On the rebuild. cast or chrome rings??.Was the cyclinders bored?Were the heads reworked??? Check compression dry and then wet.Yes the valves are adjustable.0 clearance exhust and intake valves.You did NOT HURT the engine.As said above,the engine will breake in about the first 500mi.Then check compression, this should make ya happy. Keep an eye on the oil pressure.Good luck
