Its going to grind if you shift it like a modern truck. It has no syncros in the transmission. Do a search here and read up on how to double clutch. You also shouldn't have to use 1st gear to start out. Its way low and 2nd works just fine. Good Luck and with some practice you'll be shifting smooth.
