I recently installed new studs and new front drums on my '50 3100. I started the studs with a soft hammer on the hubs to get them properly seated in the grooves, then mounted the hub to the drum and used new lug nuts in reverse, that is flat side to the drum, and cross alternated tightening the studs and drawing them in the rest of the way. It was necessary to hold the drum in a vice and use an extended socket bar for leverage. I never tightened each lug nut more than one complete turn at a time while alternating. It took a little time, but I had no trouble getting them in. I also replaced the hub gaskets too. If you have access to a press, that would make it an easier job.
