First look down the primary bores of the carb & work the throttle. Each time you work it from the closed position 2 squirts of gas should go into the throat. That is the accelerater pump. If not or if it's weak you need a new accel. pump. They are leather in that carb & can dry out from setting. If that's not it the float levels might be low or you can try setting them 1-2 /32" higher. If not that you may need to juggle the metering rods & springs. Sometimes advanceing the spark can help.
