My 58 235 did that one time. Was running fine, driving down the road. Engine had appx 60,000 miles on it. All of a sudden it would back fire when you put it under load, and had a slight miss at idle. I did everything else but look under the valve cover first. Finally found that a pushrod had broken on and exhaust valve. New pushrod, adjusted valves and her she went again.
