I was talking about how to get the whole thing apart. When you are looking at what appears to be a sealed assembly it can be difficult to determine where to start. And all of the tips here helped. I finally did what most guys don't. I looked in the book. I have a reprinted '41 manual, and there is a great description in there. One written by someone who has actually done the job, unlike many of the instructions one reads these days.

A little liquid soap on the rubber and the hosing assembly pulled right out. The bearing required a little help from a local shop with an arbor press. Turns out it was shot and the wrong bearing anyway.

Now we’ll see if that rubber will go back in place.
