Checking out my engine numbers on my latest project a 1954, 3604 w/stock 235 just to see if all is original to the truck. The block serial numbers check out ok and the casting and serial numbers tell me Flint, on March 29, 1954.

The head casting number threw me for a loop though. Casting number is 3835913 and that isn’t shown in either the 1929-1954 or 1929-1957, or 1958 parts books.
Finally went to Hemmings list of casting numbers and it comes up 1954-55 only.
Anyone have any stories about the first 2years of the new 235 head and why they changed it in ‘56?
