Just a caution, the purple stuff I buy is Sodium Hydroxide, "lye".
Lye will attack nonferrous metals. It also likes to eat your skin, so wear rubber gloves and what ever else to protect yourself.
I use it for really dirty stuff, it will even strip some paints.
