Position IN = overdrive capable, Position OUT = Direct Drive, regular three speed. I have my '62 3sp+od connected to a switch so that I can split the gears and have 6 forward gears.
Factory has the kick-down and governor in use which I intend to try some day. There are many sources available for setting up your od in this manner using a $2 relay, $3 push-pull cable, and a $3 kick-down switch from Radio Shack.
