Thanks folks. I was especially wondering about the old rivets, along the line of what gotgasd said. I figured it could be catastrophic, and completely unpredictable.

I drilled the rivets out today, and the drum separated from the hub without difficulty.

Sure am curious why I have what appears to be two identical, almost new drums on the hubs. One was riveted on tight, one had rivets half cut out. Sure doesn't make any sense to me.

So is it the general accepted to not replace the rivets ? Makes it much easier to do a brake inspection later.

When God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his workthis is a gift of God. He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart. Ecclesiastes 5:19-20
