Hope you disconnected all the guages as well. The lights will (would have been) be fine if you leave them off.

I plan to do the same thing with my truck in the next couple of months. I purchased the truck months ago and am storing at sisters farm until I finish up all my other projects and make room. First thing I want to do is check the health of the engine. But, I dont want to buy a 6 volt battery only to have it sit for years while the truck is being restored. I plan to disco everything and just put 12 volts straight to coil and starter. Not even worried about burning up the points, as that will take awhile. Or, I might just put one of my ballast resisters (from inboard boat engine) between the battery and coil. Don't back feed anything you dont want to see 12V.
