yes the 3spd was column shift only, the 4 spd floor shift - if it was a 3spd it'll prolly have the shift knuckle still on the column below the steering wheel, the box on the lower column, and the flat trans-floor cover - the 4spd will have the holes for the knuckle in the top of the column, filled w/ the screws, but no box below and a floor pan with a definite hump
only way to tell if the engine is [likely] original is to check the
casting numbers and dates , the actual engine number [on a pad by the dist] can indicate year, but doesn't relate to the vin - 50 year old engines usually have been worked over or replaced sometime along the way unless you luck onto a low mileage truck
