Sounds like you are running lean. Pull the top off the carb & see what size main jet is in it. If it's a 216 you want about 53-55. If it is a 235 56-58. Check the float level. If it is correct you may want to raise it up 1-2/32's. Make sure the power valve piston works free & goes in the hole & knocks the ball off it's seat. You might advance the timing a little.
