it might not have been noticeably leaking until they pressure tested it [a bit too much? - 48 is zero pressure isn't it?] if there was weeping along the tank to core seams, you'll have some green/white stains there, and that could be fully repairable without replacing the core, but removing and resoldering the tanks by someone who knows how to actually work on old rads
