Pipe size has no bearing on pressure, only volume.
I wouldn't be concerned with volume as each carburetor has a giant "well" that would never be drained regardless of a heavy foot.
I agree with 6cylinder, it's all about style points and parts availability. The stock 5/16 line would look 'right' to me.
