For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 173 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 173 | I am going through the brakes on my '52 gmc 450 cab over. I intend to work this truck after completion. I have new wheel cylinders coming and new rubber hoses being made. Question is, while I have this all apart, should I have the shoes relined? There is plenty of pad left (approx 0.31 on front, 0.35 rear both listed as 3/8th starting thickness in manual) All shoes have been dry (no brake fluid or grease on them) but I do have one front left to dissasmble so that could change. All indications are that these are original. Is there anything to be gained? I know they had to have made some advances in lining material in the last 50+ years. Thanks, Scott
