Runnin 2 fans in a row is kind of redundant, one or the other should be more than enough, & reversing the one will only slow the flow of air and make the engine hotter.

If you're not seeing an improvement on your engine temps proper flushing may be in order at the very least. Pulling it out and having a radiator shop look at it may better, some of these older cores get so fouled up you could pack it in ice and it would still run hot.
You may also try replacing the thermostat. Since you're driving in the heat of TX I'd replace it with a performance high volume thermostat, helps keep the water temp lower by increasing the rate of circulation.
