The Carter YF is one of the most technologically advanced 1-barrel carburetors ever produced, at any price, anywhere in the world! (My opinion, others may differ) Variants of the YF were among the last carburetors to be used in the USA when fuel injection finally replaced the carburetor due to emission issues. The YF production run: 1950 to about 1990!!! Pretty impressive.
Unfortunately, the YF uses a neopreme diaphragm accelerator pump. With deathanol, the diaphragm does not hold up so well as in gasoline. For "daily drivers" expect to replace the diaphragm every 2~4 years. For "hobby" use, the failure will be more often.
The W-1, while slightly below the technology level of the YF, is much more friendly to the use of fuels other than gasoline. The leather accelerator pump is impervious to deathanol. Once properly rebuilt, the W-1 is virtually bullet-proof, assuming the owner changes fuel and air filtering at recommended intervals.
