I had a 350 engine put into a 1949 Chevy 3100 a few years back. Since then, I have gone through several starters. It seems the starter keeps moving and after 10-15 cranks, it misaligns and has to be reset.
I have done this several times. I have tried a starter bracket and get more cranks, but eventually the misalignment reoccurs, eventually tearing up the starter. I’m beginning to wonder if the problem lies in the motor mounts and if I need to have the engine pulled and reset.
Any tips or tricks would be appreciated or just to hear from someone who has gone through this same frustrating process and how to handle it would be great.
Thank you for your time and expertise.
