Crap in the gas could be, change filters. Check float settings carefully - by the book to start. Then set little low if still floods. Could be too much fuel pressure, old carbs such as stromberg didn't like anything over 2+1/2 to 3 lbs. Chevy pumps put out 5-6. Put on an adjustable fuel pressure regulator before the carb.
