+I too had a problem with a terrible clatter from hydraulic lifters on start up in a 235 engine. My solution was to replace the lifters with solid ones and adjust them to solid specks. No more clatter, just sounds like an engine with solid lifters. The cam is hydraulic. I ran another engine this way for over 100k miles with no problem but may have been lucky. Wouldn't want to cause you guys any engine damage but this worked for me.
