Waldo, you are correct, the generator, regulator and all fuses are out, with no wires touching. It's when I removed the amp metere wire, wire # 1 is when the short stopped. The positive or starter wire was left in place on the starter and there was no short in this configuration. Ok what next, perhaps there is a wire directly to the amp meter, I will check and see. Thanks.
