The "B53 848 850 above and to the front of the distributor" has never been satisfactorily explained/decoded.
The 3836848 head casting code was used on 235 engines from 1956 through 1963. And, as posted by Big Tee, it was also the code on replacement heads for high-pressure 235s from 56 until they stopped making them. The date casting code on those heads would be a clue as to the head being original or a replacement.
