My 54/55 GMC (Z-series) is older than yours but it has the ID plate "rivets" shown at the link I gave above.
These rivets are installed by placing the rivet in the plate, into the door jamb. The center of the rivet is then punched, producing a firm, "blind-sided" attachment.
