maybe i misunderstand the picture but i don't see what the vice grips would have to do with a inacurate reading, they are just a mount for the magnetic base right. it seem it would take a little trial and error to get it perfectly centered, but i don't see why it wouldn't repeat itself. but i have to say i have never worried about his enough to measure it.
