I got the small fish scale about 7 years ago. I look for it now during fishing season but have not seen it again. I think I paid less than $2 for it. I had never adjusted the steering gear; but, I followed the Shop Manual instructions and it was not difficult. The steering was VASTLY improved. I wish I had done this many years ago.

You might as well try this adjustment before you remove your assembly. At best, you might get an acceptable improvement. At worst, you will learn a technique you will have to do after rebuilding the steering box.
