Hank,the original glass was de-laminated and yellow with age,not to mention the three bullet holes!
Thankfully the shooter missed the bodywork.
I have had the side and rear glass made in 5mm thick tempered glass.
It's as tough as old boots and you can be pretty heavy handed with it,just don't clip the edge with a metal tool!
To remove the window again for paint, all i'll do is remove the lockstrip and push it out.
A 4mm (1/4") thick tempered door glass will easily support my 220+lbs and will in fact bend under my weight without breaking.
