The best thing to do is get a sevice manual for Your truck it will help not only with the distributor but alot of things on your truck.

1st- get engine on TDC - take off the valve cover and turn engine over in the right direction and watch the intake valve 2nd from front as it starts to close look for the timming mark on the flywheel when you see the triangle line up with the pointer that is on the bell housing you're at TDC on no.1 cly.

2nd- take your distributor and set the rotor at the 2 oclock position when looking at from the side .12 oclock would be pointed at the motor at the same time the housing needs to be turned so that the mounting bolt is lined up with the hole

3rd- under the dis. is the oil pump if you look at the bottom of the dis shaft you'll see what looks like a big screw driver blade and if you take a flashlite and look in the dis. hole you'll see the pump has the female part that it fits into you will have to take a screw driver and turn that until it lines up with the dis. at the 2 oclock position

4th- take the dis. and put it in there you might have to move the oil pump around one way or the other until it lines up .install the mounting bolt .the rotor(dis) is now pointed at the no.1 plug on the dis. cap and should be close

5th- install the dis cap and wires in the firing order

If memory serves me its 1,5,3,6,2,4
