Larry - it may be that they modified the basic stamping used for the 235, which is quite similar but won't bolt to the 283 properly - assuming you have the engine, just hold the bracket up to the holes and see if the holes match and it puts the pegs at a slight 'spread eagle' - having a bit of adjustment never hurts!
