Check what Fred mentioned and before you do anything else, check to see if you are at least getting spark.You may have the distributor in correctly and just not getting fire to the plugs.Check for fire at the plugs and proceed from there.
There is enough good in the worst of us and enough bad in the best of us that it does not behoove any of us to criticize the rest of us.
