The ballast resistor may be bad. Put a jumper wire from Batt.+ to the coil + and see if it keeps running after you start it.
To verify if carb is flooding, pull of fuel supply hose. insert a 5/16 fine thread bolt & clamp it for a line plug. Now start your motor. It should run several minutes before the carb. runs dry & kills it.
