I take it this is the 62 in your profile. That's not enough. A good tune is the first thing. Check the timing & vacuum advance. If you have a Roch. model B carb it is easy to take off the top & check the float level & make sure the power valve is free. If you pull the carb there is a hole in the bottom. It has to have a gasket that allows vacuum to get to that hole. You don't need any high dollar plugs. That should get you 12-14 mpg. I f you do a lot of highway driveing you will want to go to a better gear ratio like different rear end gears or an o-drive trans. Swapping to a v-8 & auto is not too difficult on this truck but it all depends on your expertise.
