#61875 06/18/2006 3:36 AM | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 1,317 | After carefully measuring and cutting the mainshaft and throwout pilot on my 85 S10 T5 and using a RCF-4201 (83-84 Firebird 2.8 clutch disc)I found I still had some drag with the clutch depressed. I discovered that the splines on the T5 mainshaft did not allow the clutch disc to slide back sufficiently to fully disengage. The S10 T5 mainshaft splines needed to be slightly cut with an air cut-off tool to allow the disc to slide back to the rear another 1/8". The other option was to grind off a bit of the transmission side flange on the disc. The RCF-4201 disc flange is relatively flat on the back and I didn't want to loose any more grip area with the clutch disc engaged. The cuts were mainly to straighten out the end taper on the spline and were by no means highly precise. This minor adjustment made the big difference and the conversion is completed.
